fashion forward

"Fashion is instant language."
Miuccia Prada

It can be magnificent, flamboyant art. It can also be a big pretentious wank... but there is an intractable little girl  in me who will always love playing dress-ups. And - as you know - the best kind of fashion is the kind that fulfills the desire to make myriad fantasies tangible.

fashion forward men

You have to love stylish men who dress with panache and are not afraid to express a sense of elegance and quirk at the same time. In Australia it is such a pity that dressing beautifully has been limited to the realm of gay men only. Whenever I am in Italy or Spain I take such delight in the all the wonderfully dressed male eye-candy that is targeted as much for women as it is for men.
And Pitti Uomo in Florence is the epicentre for gorgeously dressed dandys.
check out this latest gallery here for the best of the best.

And here are a few examples for you all to sigh and get moist over.

animal skin boots!

What is it about animal skin – and particularly animal skin boots -  that is so damn seductive!

You know what I mean - the raw, unapologetic, feline power of leopard print.
Or that sleek, old-world, elegant dangerousness of snake skin.

Think Milan and Rome in 1959.
Think Gucci. Christian Louboutin.

Beautifully produced prints, worked with care and flare to produce art with a jungle edge – infinitely wearable and ludicrously sexy.

I’m not talking about the tacky made-in-China  sad-cougar copy-cats kind of feral prints. That trash isn't even in the same league, and you know it.

I’m talking about untamed magnetism.
Boots that as soon as you pull them on, make you feel like Queen Tigress of Chic.

Hells yeah to that!

(DISCLAIMER: HOWEVER I want to make it very clear that none of the big fashion houses to my knowledge use synthetic alternatives to real animal skins, which I find really sad, as I am TOTALLY against the fur and leather trade and cruelty to animals in all forms.  High quality fake replicas are the only things I would consider buying or wearing and this post is not a sign of my support of these trades. In fact the current trend to use real fur again in fashion I find abhorrent and disturbing. Check out this amazing pineapple skin leather alternative!)

Here are some beautiful boots and shoots that have caught my eye recently for your pleasure and inspiration.

Gucci did an amazing job with their knee high python skin boots in a full range of colours and their gorgeous emerald green pumps. I think they were the first to really do python hard core in such a massive and colourful way for boots.

And how freaking cool are Givenchy's mid-calf boots with their dazzling array of patterns and colours and banana heels!
Zany and varied enough to suit any character and any outfit.

As for Prada... always divine, always kooky, always elegant Prada.
She has to be different.
She just has to be herself.
Boots that look like snake skin knee high socks. In all weird colours.
Weird. Awesome.

And Louis Vuitton.
The master of adventuring into the wild and beyond.
How can you stop your inner vixen from purring and stretching her claws with his creations adorning your body!
I mean seriously!

jewelry i  love

Here are two of my all-time favourite jewelers.
They also happen to be gorgeous friends of mine and are talented, AMAZING chicks.
Their jewelry designs are unique and simply superb.
See for yourselves.
Picture
The first is Zara Simon - her designs have that wonderful chunky gold, byzantine feel about them, reminiscent of ancient, and decidedly royal worlds. They are designed with precious and semi precious stones handpicked by Zara and set in Vermeil. I especially love her use of bold coloured stones.
She's not timid in her creativity, and I like that.
Her jewels are for the girl who is a sophisticated jet-setter who has a soft spot for history and Egypt and luxury.

Her latest Metropolis collection has a more edgy metropolitan feel and mixes cool city-scapes with Egyptian imagery. It is a stunning collection of rings emulating cities around the world. Made in 9ct and 18ct gold, set delicately with rubies, sapphires and diamonds.

Here are some examples of her work.

Firstly these amazing rings:

And the coolest piece of all is this ring which can be worn as a double ring or single (half bite):

The second collection is jewelry by Prithvi Alamkara.

These are gorgeous, delicate and quirky pieces that are thoroughly unique and eye catching in design. Each piece is handcrafted and no piece is like another.

Again the defining characteristic is the use of raw, byzantine gold and you feel like you have just raided an archaeological treasure trove from the palaces of ancient Crete!
Exactly the look I try to cultivate, personally.
Exotic, mysterious and magnetising in that "I'm a sexy anthropologist who has spent a lot of time in the east studying tantra" kind of way.

Their earrings are very special - I love the exquisite golden bird motive!

forever dolce & gabbana

Dolce & Gabbana's recent contributions to the world of fashion have been mesmerising.
I totally get into that medieval thing -  A rich, lush world of baroque royalty, embellished by gold and silver and blood red passion.
It's all about transporting yourself to a romantic castle full of velvets and tapestries, knights in shining armour and beautiful damsels, and endless decadent banquets and ceremonies.
Ready, set, go!

If you like the style but don't have the budget for Dolce & Gabbana (I mean seriously who does!), here are some similar super cheap finds in the same baroque style:

I don't know whether you could classify steampunk as fashion... it's kind of a lifestyle choice to live in a fantasy world.
But that suits me just fine.
I actually think all fashion should enable that!
